VIKING LEGACY SCHOLAR APPLICATIONS

APPLICATION CLOSED

2025 VIKING LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN MAY

Legacy Scholars: Leaders Committed to Holmen

The Legacy Scholarship was established to instill in Holmen High School graduating seniors a shared sense of ownership by passing on the Viking Axe: responsibility, passion, and commitment to the Holmen community. This scholarship is more than the monetary value, it is an opportunity to join a passionate network of community driven leaders who remain committed to positive impact long after graduating from Holmen High School. They understand that today’s graduating seniors will be tomorrow’s community leaders and they aspire to contribute to a better Holmen before passing it on and sharing it with generations to follow. This leader cares about their contribution to the lineage of the Holmen Vikings, the planet, and even about our contribution as individuals to a deeper continuum. This student understands that our actions today echo beyond our time and that our legacy is woven into the lives of others. This true leader answers the call of “leaving your school in a better place,” a code of leaving their Viking Legacy.

What Makes a Legacy Scholar

  • We look for graduating seniors who live the Viking Way: leading by example, doing the right thing, and passionate about growth in themselves and others.

  • Legacy Scholars are authentic to themselves, treat others with respect, and aspire to give back to Holmen in their own unique way in the future.

  • There is no mold for Legacy Scholars: they are unique, outgoing, and one of one. We encourage all to apply!

Application Tips

Tackling the Essays

This is an opportunity to share your passion and envisioned impact by telling a compelling story about your future. Bring your whole story together by focusing on how you plan to pair your abilities with your passion to make an impact. Balance keeping your past in mind while not losing focus on your future impact. It is completely normal not to know your exact vision: you can still make an impact with an open mind. Our pursuit of lifelong learning is right in line with this. Great essays are authentic, clear, and packaged together with passion. Don’t forget to emphasize what you want to do and how you hope to contribute to the Holmen community wherever life takes you. The essays serve as the center of gravity for your application. Take the time to outline your answers, proof read, and revise.

Letter of Nomination

Each applicant is required to submit a letter of nomination in support of their Legacy Scholar application. The applicant can chose any coach, teacher, employer, or military leader as their nomination writer. The writer will be required to answer three standardized questions. The recommender will not need to write a separate letter of recommendation like other scholarships. The key to selecting the right nomination writer is to make sure they know you best. This is an opportunity for the selection board to see you “off the page" as the nomination writer can share who you are day to day. This helps us to assess your character and see the best you. Please Note: the applicant must download the Letter of Nomination Template for the writer to fill out and submit with their application.
